The Old Cannon Brewery, Bury St Edmunds - Sunday 11th October
The Olde Windmill, Great Cressingham - Thursday 24th September
The Bring & Brai.- Sunday 23rd August
Reports on these events are below .........
The Old Cannon Brewery Sunday 11th October found 28 Folkmoggers and 2 guests converging on the Old Cannon Brewery in Bury St Edmunds for a brewery tour and lunch. We were warmly welcomed by Judith and Mike Shallow with glasses of beer in the car park which had been set aside for us. Stephen Oliver and Roger and Dominic Coverley went green for the meeting and walked while the Hopkins came in a tin top.It was especially good to see Jenny Turner at the meeting. The brewery tours were conducted by Judith and Mike and it was particularly interesting to learn that a heard of Redpoll Cattle in Brent Eleigh is sustained by the mash from the brewery. The consensus was that the Old Cannon's ales are outstanding and they helped to wash down a good lunch along with a lot of conversation. The Old Cannon was awarded an unofficial 'proper place' designation and many said they would return on trips to Bury.
The Olde Windmill, Great Cressingham. On the afternoon of Tuesday 24th September as the sun set beautifully in the west those of us who braved the early onset of an autumnal evening enjoyed a lovely drive to Great Cressingham arriving at The Old Windmill just before 7.00 with the light fading (hence no photo’s). The pub had set aside a car park for our use, where 9 Morgans gathered, one of our members arriving in a day car, thought better and parked in the utility section!!
The pub, an interesting maze of rooms and corridors, welcomed us to their garden room where 18 of our members assembled and enjoyed a drink before ordering. This small and brave party dined well on good food and enjoyed a delightful evening.
The party broke up later and for those of us brave enough (and with the forethought to bring fleeces) departed roof down for a pleasant drive home.
The Bring &Brai. On Sunday August 23rd the weather was fine and sunny, if a little windy, as Folkmoggers gathered for a Bring and Brai at the Braithwaites in Suffolk. There were 13 cars, a bicycle ridden by Dilys Lloyd and a very special tricycle ridden by Ian Charity. An open marquee had been organised with tables on the lawn which was appreciated with the strength of the sun. Everyone brought their own food to barbeque on one of three that had been provided so the fare ranged from basic sausages right up to fish in foil and marinaded meat. Pat Braithwaite had organised excellent salads, couscous rice and other delicious stuff. It proved to be a thoroughly pleasant and relaxed occasion which was capped by England winning the Ashes that day. Pat and Alan had asked for a small collection on behalf of the Monks Eleigh Church and £95 was collected for they are very grateful
.
