We arrived at the pub about ten minutes before it opened this weekend and two other cars also arrived early but there was to be no leaping out and chatting in the car park for us. The rainfall was beginning to be of biblical proportions and none of us wanted to get wet. We had even not brought the Morgan because it was so wet and we were not alone in this either. We had arrived in our other mog, our new (to us anyway) Morris 1000 Traveller. We had chosen a route to Badingham which took us along the bottom of a river valley (not actually in the river you understand) and there was a mass of standing water on the roads. In the end there were thirty-one of us but only seven Morgans.
Midday arrived and the hardy souls unpacked ourselves from our cars and
headed into the White Horse. Inside we felt much more like chatting and a
convivial half an hour of general talking ensued. A number of us had been
on the trip to France and immediately started relive the memories. Diana
had also brought along her laptop on which she set a slide show going of
some of the pictures we, Alan Braithwaite and Graham Peek had taken during
the week. We were having such a good time that the landlord found it difficult
to tempt us into the restaurant to eat the repast that had been prepared.
Eventually though hunger overtook us and we headed into the other room to
find our places for lunch. We had all pre-booked our food so there was no
need to inspect the menu. Lunch duly arrived and we all tucked in, and a
jolly nice lunch it was as well.
Maurice made a couple of announcements. The first was to remind us all that
the planning meeting is coming up next month and this is the closest thing
to an AGM that Folkmog has. It is really important this year as Maurice announced
that he would only be able to carry on as centre secretary for one more year.
He has been carrying the load for eleven years now and he feels that it is
about time for the baton to be handed on. It should also be noted that he
is also the treasurer and he, along with Eileen organise a huge number of
the events that we enjoy so much. We have much to thank Maurice and Eileen
for and we only have one year left to organise ourselves to attempt to fill
his shoes so that they can relax and enjoy a few events without the pressure
of having to organise them.
The second announcement Maurice made was a bit more mundane in as much as the December meeting in Woodbastwick would be a Christmas menu and would, as normal, require pre-booking of menu choices and on this occasion a deposit of five pounds per person. Watch the website. I will be posting the menu as soon as I get it from Maurice.
We eventually decided to return home at about three I guess and we were
entirely unsurprised to find that it was still raining. We decided to take
the high road back to Aldeburgh but I am not sure that it made a stack of
difference to the roads.
Another fun lunchtime with friends but as you will notice there are not too many pictures of the outside!
