Ah the joys of organising and attending a FolkMog meeting! I cannot describe the long and arduous journey from our home to the last meeting at Snape because the journey was neither long nor arduous. Snape is, at most two miles from Aldeburgh along a pretty straight road so there are no sweeping bends or sharp right handers to talk about either. Our mog was stunningly grubby so we left a bit early to call in to the jet wash to give her a bit of a clean but apart from that our journey was uneventful.
We were a little concerned that there would not be very many FolkMoggers turning out as it had been pretty cold in February, I don’t suppose anyone noticed, and there was a likelihood of salt on the roads as well as an early frost. We had booked for twenty four and apart from worrying that we could not fill the tables we had booked for we were also concerned that our directions would not be adequate. There are two other pubs apart from the Golden Key people could have thought was our meeting place and the Golden Key is tucked down a side road.
As it turned out thirty seven of us showed up at the Golden Key and despite over spilling our designated area by quite a lot we were all made very welcome. I am not sure how the Golden Key did it but somehow they managed to fit in the extra thirteen people and satisfy their other customers as well. The food was excellent as well and I for one had a wonderful time. Many thanks to the Golden Key. This is a pub that was about OK last year but is really good now. If you did not join us on the visit it is well worth the effort.
There was a good scattering of Mogs of all ages, several folks had come without a roof and Simon Rayfield had brought his three wheeler. We somehow managed to cram ourselves into the car park. This is another nice thing about going out with Morgans – you always that if you block one in you probably know them and you will almost certainly be leaving at the same time. So it was when we left we repeated the normal before chat in the car park with another post lunch chat in the car park. All excellent fun.
