The meeting at the Old Mill House, Saxtead green was a little odd, which I will tell you about later. We arrived, unusually for us, a little early and
I was looking forward to the normal car park chat before going in to eat. I was also hoping to get a few pictures of cars arriving. As it turned out there were already a quite a few cars already in the car park and a few had also gone inside. A brief chat was had but we soon followed the advanced party into the Old Mill House. This is a pleasant pub with a good menu and good beer. I seem to remember we used it for a Tuesday Noggin a couple of years ago.
There were a few more cars than expected, 14 with 27 people, and space was
at a premium so after we had finished our lunch we leapt to our feet to vacate
a chair for those who had not eaten yet. This turned out to be unnecessary
as several others had already done the same. However, I find something satisfying
about drinking a beer standing up so I remained standing. Mind you, by this
time I had moved on to the non alcoholic beers as I was designated driver.
Ian Charity, David Kennett and I have agreed to take over the organisation
of the Gymkhana from Maurice this year. We are due to have our first planning
meeting to see exactly how dastardly we can get with the tests and this needed
to be arranged. Ian had left his diary in the car so the three of us repaired
to the car park to sort out a date. Of course, while we were in the car park
we could not resist admiring the assembled Morgans and not very long afterwards
we were joined by a fair number of other Folkmoggers. This why this was an
odd meeting as the car park chat happened after lunch rather than before.
It was almost a meeting in reverse!
We eventually left at about threeish I guess and we were by no means the last to leave. As far as I could see fun was had by all and we are now all looking forward to the next meeting which is, of course, one of the high spots of the year, the annual treasure hunt. More about this on the coming events page.
