Hasn’t the weather been brilliant over the last few days? We spent a long
weekend in York visiting our younger daughter, Rebecca. We drove back to
Aldeburgh yesterday, 13th May, in our Saab so you would think that the last
thing we would have wanted to do was jump in the Morgan and drive to the
Middleton Bell for a Noggin. I must admit that I was fairly tired but as
soon as I got in to the Mog I found a smile spreading across my face and
all of the aches and pains of the long drive dissipate and by the time I
reached the Bell I was feeling fine. I wonder if the medical profession has
done any research on the medicinal virtues of driving for stress and general
relief.
We were greeted at The Bell by the sight of at least three Morgans in the
car park. I mention this not because it is unusual but because we had really
tried to get there early this time and were even expecting to be first. They
must have been there very early as there were no Morgan owners in view. We
were just about to go in when Maurice and Eileen arrived followed closely
by several others and the general chat in the car park ensued. Photographs
were taken and we started towards the pub where just outside, on the green
we were welcomed by a pony quietly keeping the grass at bay.
Once inside we received a warm welcome from the landlord and during our
opening drink we met up with new members Roger and Alec Moran who were not
joining us for food but had, that day, driven from the factory in their brand
new roadster. Of course, this was a signal to return to the car park to have
a look. This turned out to be left hand drive as Roger spends a lot of time
on the continent.
Eventually we returned to the pub and took up our places at the tables reserved
for us. I had the venison pie which I am forced to say was the best I have
ever tasted. Venison can be a bit tough and dry sometimes but the chef at
the Bell had surpassed him or her self and it was lovely.
During the meal Maurice passed round a proposed future program and a flyer for the classic car event at Helmingham Hall. This looks quite interesting and information may be found here.
We were still fairly tired and we left after the meal but several of the crew stayed on to talk Morgans with Roger. There were twenty of us in eleven Morgans and as far as I could tell everyone had a good time. Pictures are from Maurice and me.
