Arriving at the Dukes HeadWe were late! Unusually it was not because we were delayed leaving, of course delayed leaving covers a multitude of transgressions from sleeping late to getting distracted and forgetting the time but this was not the case here. We left on time and then stopped in the longest queue for petrol I have been in for a long time and then, as if this was not enough, discovered that one of the bridges at Lowestoft was closed. It was not the bridge we wanted to use but it meant everyone else wanted to use the one we were using thus making us well late really late. This meant we rather missed the normal pre lunch, car park chat that invariably goes on at a FolkMog meeting.

FolkMoggers at the troughWe were meeting at the Duke’s Head in Somerleyton for our annual planning meeting. This is as close to an annual general meeting as FolkMog get to and it says a lot about us that we would not dream of holding anything as stuffy as an AGM. Rather like the fact that we never have a Christmas lunch just a ‘not the Christmas lunch’ in January. The venue was the same as last year, the beer just as good and the food reasonable although my soup was a tad on the peppery side for my liking. Mind you the bread and butter pudding was yummy.

Martin receiving the salverWhile we were eating a photograph of Martin Page receiving a silver salver was passed round. This was presented by the Morgan Sports Car Club to mark his retirement from his post as Treasurer, a post he has held for some nine years. Those present were, back row, Malcomb Lamb (past chairman), Anne Salisbury (membership sec.), Ann Johnson (child protection officer), Mary Oliver (AGM weekend organiser) and Tony Oliver (competition sec), front row, Peter Johnson (chairman), Brian Lee (vice chairman) and, of course, Martin. Thanks to Caroline Page for the photograph.

There were thirty five of us at the meeting and we had arrived in sixteen Morgans which is only slightly less than we had at the White Horse Baddingham a couple of weeks ago.

After the food had been eaten the meeting began. Maurice started by suggesting a register of members so that we could contact each other. Everyone seemed in favour of this and a blank version of this form is here for you to save, print and fill in. Please return this to Maurice.

Chris and Sally about to leaveOur esteemed chairman, Chris Dady said a few words of thanks for the officials and the officials gave a report of themselves. Then we moved on the main business of the day, which was deciding what we would do next year. The full minutes of this are being circulated elsewhere so there is no point in reiterating them here but suffice it to say that there were lots of suggestions and an outline programme was mapped out. Quite frankly I am finding it difficult to wait especially when thinking about how much fun there was to be had this year.

Complete with Mog2008 BadgeThe meeting broke up at about three fifteen and everyone began wending there way home. While in the car park I noticed that Peter Robins already had the Mog 2008 car badge attached. Now that is what I call planning!

This is the kind of AGM I like. Lots of friends, good food, good drink and a drive in our Morgan. Roll on next year. There is a movie of people leaving here be patient it takes a while to load.
